PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side illuminant having a protective layer, the cross-sectional figure of which can be easily varied as desired along the longitudinal direction and does not require a complicated structure in a place where the side illuminant is to be installed, and to provide a fixing component for insert molding to form the protective layer of the side illuminant by insert molding. SOLUTION: While an optical fiber 2 is inserted to a holding section 11 of a fixing component 1, a leg section 12 of the fixing component 1 is pushed into a receptacle hole 31 of a mold 3 and fixed. A resin for forming a protective layer is injected into the mold to carry out insert molding. As each fixing component 1 is fixed to the mold 3 and the optical fiber 2 is reliably secured at least in the radial cross-sectional direction to the fixing component, the optical fiber 2 does not move in the mold by the flow of the resin for forming the protective layer during injection molding, and thereby, the side illuminant having the protective layer in a desired figure can be obtained.
