PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress useless piston stop position control. SOLUTION: This control device comprises an operated condition determining part 101 for determining the operated condition of an engine 1, a combustion control part 102 for serving at least the automatic stop and restart control of the engine 1, a starter 36 as an electric drive mechanism for starting assist of the engine 1 during stop, and a starter control part 103 for driving the starter 36 when predetermined assist conditions based on the determination of the operated condition determining part 101 are established during establishing restarting conditions. The combustion control part 102 automatically stops the engine 1 with simple stopping processing omitting predetermined braking processing (Step S26) when the engine stopping conditions are established and the operated condition determining part 101 determines the operated condition in which the electric drive mechanism may be used in combination at restart.
