PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tatami consisting of a core material or a Tatami-bed (tatami core) which hardly absorb water even in the case of being immersed in water or hot water to permit long time immersion in water. SOLUTION: The core material has a water absorption (g/100 cm<SP>2</SP>) of not higher than about 2 g/100 cm<SP>2</SP>within an elapse of immersion time of 400 days when the core material is immersed at about 50 mm below the surface of water of 45°C, and the core material of a thickness of about 25 mm has a water absorption (vol.%) of not higher than about 0.55% within an elapse of immersion time of 400 days when the core material is immersed at about 50 mm below the surface of water of about 23°C. The tatami comprises the core material made of a foamed polystyrene resin satisfying formula,λwet=λdry+0.0009±3 V, and havingλdry of 0.020-0.027, and is permitted to be immersed in water for a long time, whereinλwet is a thermal conductivity (kcal/mh°C) in the water absorption state,λdry is a thermal conductivity (kcal/mh°C) in the dry state and V is a water absorption (vol.%).
