PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for detecting fuel deterioration that are capable of detecting oxidative fuel degradation and informing a user of the same. SOLUTION: In the device for detecting fuel deterioration, ECU 10 calculates a fuel deterioration index value (oxidative deterioration degree) X of a biofuel, and, if the fuel deterioration index value X exceeds a threshold Xf, it lights a first warning light 21 of an instrument panel 20 and warns an user of the oxidative degradation of the biofuel, and thus it can detect the oxidative degradation of the biofuel and inform the user of the same.
