The method involves transmitting light pulses (5) at time period with a preset repetition rate such that a distance between successive light pulses is larger than a delay time. A portion of the light pulses is scattered by counterflow particles (20) that are contained in a detection area (2). The scattered portion of the light pulses is registered at another time period. The determined scattered portion is evaluated for analysis of flow. The latter time period is predetermined by a delay time in relation to the former time period. An independent claim is also included for a device for analyzing fluid flow.
