The method involves determining information contents (IAA, IA1, IA2) for each process variable (A) to be examined based on defined time intervals (delta ta1, delta ta2). Information flow function (FA) is computed from the information contents of the process variables. The process variables are monitored to perform the information flow function via risk evaluation. The information flow function is separately computed for the process variable for multiple time interval referring information contents of the process variable. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for monitoring a complex process in a biological system, biochemical system, medical system and molecular and technical system.
