The invention relates to a method for making underwater steel ducts (1) that comprises assembling end to end by welding the ends of unitary duct members (2a-2b), the steel or metal alloy welding seams of said welds being located outside the duct, characterised in that a localised hammering is carried out inside the duct in order to increase the steel or metal compression at said welds (6) and on the peripheral inner surface (2i) of the adjacent duct on either side of the welds (6) in order to create a corridor (7) with a hammered surface on a limited distance L in the longitudinal axial direction (XX) of said duct.
