<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus designed so that transfer paper is read from a place out of the original point of a document table, and to provide an image forming method, program, and a computer-readable recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: A test pattern is output. Thereafter, it is determined whether paper of all paper types has been ejected or not. If it is determined that the paper ejection has been finished, an operation display section 201 displays instructions to set a test pattern on a document table and depress a start button. After the display is given, it is determined whether a document has been set with a pressure plate opened and an empty space left between the test pattern and the original point of the document table and the start button has been depressed. After an image is read, the image is stored in an image storage section 203. After that, an image recognizing section 206 extracts the leading end of transfer paper and the leading end of the test pattern from an image stored in the image storage section 203.
