PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium battery easy to manufacture with a raw material which is inexpensive and low in chemical activity; to provide a positive electrode for a lithium secondary battery, and its manufacturing method.

SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method forming a positive electrode made of lithium manganate on a substrate by a vapor phase method, a manganese oxide is used as a raw material of manganese of lithium manganate or a partial substitution compound of lithium manganate, the manganese oxide is put into a vapor deposition source container 61, and energy for vaporization is applied in oxygen-containing atmosphere.
