PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of improving the quality of a read image even when a distance from a read means to an original read surface is changed by the thickness of an original. SOLUTION: The image reader comprises: a read means for irradiating the original with light and performing read in the state that a distance between an original read surface and an opposite surface is fixed; a paper thickness detection means for detecting the thickness of the original read in the read means; a processing means for processing image data obtained in the read means on the basis of a processing parameter; and a control means for performing the control of changing the parameter in the processing means corresponding to the thickness of the original detected in the paper thickness detection means.
