PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member capable of reducing time involved in reaching from a slide start to a state that a sliding surface is lubricated. SOLUTION: A sliding member which is formed by sintering metal powders including copper and iron and which keeps a sintered alloy layer 30 including a plurality of air holes 31 on a sliding surface 25 with a shaft 22, is a strand-like body 25 which impregnates a lubricating oil 32 in a range of kinematic viscosity between 460 and 1,500 cSt in the air holes 31 and consists of a plurality of filaments 36, wherein self-lubricating grains 37 are woven between the filaments 36 and held on the sliding surface 25 so as to come into contact with the lubricating oil 32.
