1,247,092. Centrifugal separator. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. 5 Nov., 1969 [6 Nov., 1968], No. 54143/69. Heading B2P. An apparatus for separating solid or liquid particles from gas comprises a hollow rotatable casing 3 having an annular lateral wall 3a formed with. passages 3ab for the discharge of the particles and two end covers 3b, 3c, one of which, 3c, has an entry orifice 5 for the gas to be purified, passages 1d being provided radially inwardly for discharging the purified gas. Vanes 4 divide the interior of the casing into a number of ducts 6 each delimited by opposite faces 4aa, 4ab of consecutive vanes and extending over the whole axial length of the casing interior. Each vane 4 presents, viewed in section in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the casing, Fig. 2, substantially the shape of a wedge so that the opposite faces 4aa, 4ab of consecutive vanes are substantially parallel to one another. A baffle 4b projecting into each of the ducts 6 co-operates with the internal faces of the lateral wall 3a and of the end covers 3b, 3c of the casing in order to subdivide the respective duct into a centrifugal entry section 6a communicating with the entry orifice 5 and having a substantially constant flow area, a convergent intermediate section substantially parallel to the axis of the casing, and a centripetal divergent exit section 6c communicating with a corresponding passage 1d through which the purified gas is discharged. The vanes 4, which are undercut at 4aba adjacent the discharge passages 3ab, are carried by a ring 4c and by a sleeve 4b which constitute the baffle in each duct. The casing 3 is secured with the ring 4c on a hollow shaft by means of screws 7 and the casing, vanes 4 and sleeve 4b are held together by screws 8. The interior of the shaft 1 forms a passage 1a closed in one direction by a deflector cone 1b. The ring 4c has an inclined face 4cb which co-operates with the opposite face 4bc, of the sleeve 4b to form in each duct 6 a convergent section downstream of the divergent exit section 6c through which the gas is accelerated prior to discharge through the corresponding passage 1d.
