The gas sensor has a sensor element (2) arranged in a sensor housing (1), and provided in a support. The support is designed as a metallic clamping element (5), which has two clamping sections (8), where the sensor element is clamped between the clamping sections. The clamping element has two recesses (10), at which the clamping sections are formed. An electric insulator (9) is provided between the clamping sections and the sensor element. The electric insulator is formed as a coating of the clamping sections and/or the sensor element.
