A magnetic recording medium is produced by: a step for contacting the surface of a medium substrate to a chemisorbent solution produced by mixing an alkoxysilane compound, a silanol condensing catalyst and a non-aqueous solvent, reacting the surface of the medium substrate with the alkoxysilane compound and forming the first reactive organic film on the surface of the medium substrate; a step for dispersing the magnetic particulate into the chemisorbent solution produced by mixing a second alkoxysilane compound, a silanol condensing catalyst and a non-aqueous solvent, reacting the surface of the magnetic particulates with the alkoxysilane compound and forming a second reactive organic film on the surface of the magnetic particulates; a step for contacting the surface of the medium substrate having the first reactive organic film with the magnetic particulate covered with the second reactive organic film and reacting those films; and a step for washing and removing the excess magnetic particulates.
