1,248,840. Crease-proofing textiles. COTTON PRODUCERS INSTITUTE. 17 Sept., 1969 [3 Oct., 1968], No. 45861/69. Heading D1P. Cellulosic fibre-containing textile material is made suitable for the fabrication of durablepress apparel therefrom by applying an aqueous liquid adjusted to a pH of 1-4 and containing a water-soluble, hardenable polymer precursor possessing reactive N-methylol groups in amount sufficient to deposit at least 3% of the precursor based on the dry weight of the material, passing the material while maintaining its moisture regain at not less than 20% through a wet fixation zone at a temperature of at least 100‹C. at a rate corresponding to a dwell time in the zone of from 10 seconds to less than 2 minutes and until the precursor is fixed on the material under avoidance of effective crease-proofing, and cooling under polymerising conditions. The process may further include the steps of adjusting the pH of the wet-fixed material to a least 6 and washing the material, applying a cellulose cross-linking agent other than the polymer precursor either simultaneously with the latter or after wet-fixation of the latter, applying an acid acting curing catalyst, and dry-curing at 120‹-180‹C. Materials which may be treated include natural and regenerated cellulose and blends, e.g. which contain at least 15% cotton mixed with polyester, nylon or wool fibres.
