An adjustable support apparatus 10 is described comprising: lower support element 11 and upper support element 12, which are connected to each other and which are moveable relative to each other between a first position, in which they are spaced from each other, and a second position, in which they lie closer to each other. An actuating means 18 is provided for effecting movement of the lower and upper support elements relative to each other. Connection devices 40 are provided wherein each connection device includes a first part 40a connected to the lower support element 11 and a second part 40b connected to the upper support element 12, the first and second parts being releasably connectable to each other when the upper and lower support elements lie in the second position so as to hold the upper and lower support elements relative to each other in the second position. An additional invention relates to apparatus also configured such that a first operation of an operating means of the apparatus disconnects the first and second parts of the connection device(s) from each other and a subsequent operation of the operating means effects movement of the upper support element away from the lower support element. |
