PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a glycidyl group-containing alicyclic compound with a low chlorine content, in which a high reactivity can be achieved and with which the alicyclic compound can be produced under a commercially advantageous condition. SOLUTION: In the production method of a glycidyl group-containing alicyclic compound, a glycidyl group-containing aromatic compound is nuclear hydrogenated using a supported ruthenium catalyst. In the method, the amount of ruthenium supported on the support particle is 0.5-10 wt.%. Further, when the concentration distribution of ruthenium atoms in the diametrical direction of a cross section that passes through the center of the support particle is measured using EPMA (electron probe microanalysis) method, the concentration of ruthenium atoms that locates within 30% of the average diameter from the outer surface of the support particle is 50-100%, based on the above-mentioned amount supported on the particle. The method is characterized by that the nuclear hydrogenation takes place using the above-described surface supported ruthenium catalyst in the presence of ether group-containing alcohol represented by formula (1) (wherein R<1> is a linear or a branched 1-3C alkyl group, and n is an integer of 1-2). |
