A telecommunications system, for communicating data between a control node 5 and a mobile device 1, comprises a plurality of repeater nodes 2-4, each repeater node having a transceiver unit 10 to transmit and receive data to and from one or more other repeater nodes 2-4, the control node 5 or the mobile device 1 within a predetermined range, and a processing unit 11 to control the transceiver unit 10. The control node 5 transmits data in a downstream direction to the mobile device 1 via the repeater nodes 2-4 and receives data from the mobile device 1 transmitted in an upstream direction via the repeater nodes 2-4. Communication in the upstream and downstream directions via the repeater nodes 2-4 uses a time frame divided into a plurality of time slots (TS1-TS5 fig.2), each time slot being allocated to the repeater nodes 2-4 so that each repeater node transmits to another repeater node in a time slot which is a minimal time from the time slot in which the other repeater node transmits data. Hence, the time taken for upstream or downstream data to be transmitted from a mobile device 1 to the control node 5, via the repeater nodes 2-4, is reduced. |
