[Also in Division H2] A combing device for locating in a given pattern the free ends of a plurality of flexible leads projecting axially from an electrical component comprises a pair of centrally apertured members 3, Figs. 2, 3, each having, for each lead, a hook-shaped tapering slot 5 extending outward from the aperture, the arrangement being such that, when the two members are arranged on the lead wires and have been brought into a given mutual disposition, Fig. 4, the given pattern of leads 7 is is formed by mutually registering portions of corresponding slots 5. The members 3, which may then be joined together, are slid to the ends of the leads 7 to enable the latter to be inserted simultaneously through holes in a mounting plate, after which the members 3 may be cut away or, if of insulating material may be retained as mounting means for the component when the latter is, e.g. soldered to a printed circuit board (Fig. 10, not shown) A second pair of slotted members may be used to increase the spacing of the leads (Figs. 5, 6, not shown), and the members 3 may be used to facilitate the insertion of leads into holes in semi-annuli of plastics material which are subsequently moulded together to a single rectangular shape (Figs. 7-9, not shown). Alternatively, the members 3 may be made of partially cured plastics material capable of being moulded to rectangular shape. |
