A buckle comprises a socket bounded on three sides by walls, 22, 24 and 26 and on the fourth side by a latching member 30 pivotable about its point of contact in a recess in walls 22, 24 respectively and engageable with a recess 16 or 18 in a tongue 10 insertable into the socket to retain it therein. The latching member abuts a push button 34 and the tongue is released by pressing the push button to pivot the member 30 out of the recess in the tongue against the pressure of a spring 36. A spring 38 pressing on the end of the tongue ejects the tongue from the socket. The spring abuts an end fitting 48 for a steel wire cable 44 secured by a rivet 46 to walls 22, 24. The push button may be biased outwardly by a spring of by a piece of foam plastics. The socket is enclosed by a two part plastics case which has a channel for the push button and an opening for insertion of the tongue. |
