A method and an apparatus for processing an image of a mobile phone are provided to adjust image size along with a direction of a display unit by using a square sensor in the mobile phone, thereby processing an image considering the direction of the display unit. A square image having width x height size of a display unit is obtained from a sensor while photographing an image. The size of the obtained image is adjusted and displayed(S720). The image whose size is adjusted is stored when a request for storage is made(S735). When it is a longitudinal direction display in image size adjustment, an image having a size corresponding to the longitudinal direction display is selected from the obtained square image.
