<p>Linear polyethylene terephthalates contg. 90-97 mol.% (esp. 92-96 mol.%) ethylene terephthalate units together with other known polyesters forming units, and 0.5-6 mol.% (esp. 1.5-4 mol.%) (w.r.t. dicarboxylic acid content in the polyester) of a cpd of formula (I) O-(CH2)x-SO3M (where x=3 or 4, M=alkali metal, R1=C3-8 alkyl, Cl, Br, phenyl or cyclohexyl and R2=H, Cl or Br). The polyesters are made in the usual wat by direct (trans) esterification of the components. Products arer useful for the prodn, of fibres and films with good mechanical properties and excellent receptivity to basic dyes.</p> |
