To provide an internal combustion engine for a small-sized planing boat in which a lateral width of the oil pan is made narrow and its vertical width i s also kept low in compliance with a shape of the boat bottom of the small-siz ed planing boat to enable an entire height of the internal combustion engine to be kept low. There is provided an internal combustion engine for a small-sized planing boat in which there is provided the oil pan connected from below to the lower surface of the crank case and extending along the boat bottom of t he hull, the cavity with a long one side being opened in a forward or rearward direction by the frame wall protruded substantially in a vertical orientatio n in the oil pan and communicated with the oil pump is defined, the oil strainer is installed at the opening in a substantial vertical orientation to define across the cavity.
