<p>An allergenic extract of an inhalant (such as vegetable pollen, household dust, penicillium spores) which is essentially insoluble in water, contains all the allergenic factors soluble in glycerine, is free from organic complexes and fat fractions and stable during storage is prepared by precipitation of a defatted, dialysed extract of the inhalant with an equal volume of a flocculating agent consisting of an alkaline-earth aluminium sulphate (pref. a 2% soln. of potassium aluminium sulphate) adjusted to pH 7.4 to 7.6 with NaOH. The electrolytes are removed by washing and the precipitate stored below 0 degree C. The extract may be used in the treatment of allergies such as hay-fever, asthma, rhinitis or conjunctivitis.</p> |
