highly pure ceramic articles are made by mixing fine and coarse powders of at least one refractory oxide with an acid soln. esp. H3PO4 or acetic acid in sufficient quantity to dissolve the fine particles but not significantly to affect the coarse, shaping the paste so produced by conventional means and thermally stabilising the product. Specifically, the stabilisation temp. using H3PO4 is about 200-300 degrees C. The ceramic may be Al2O3, MgO, ZrO2, Be2O, CaO etc. Avoids the high sintering temp. and the consequent introduction of impurities from the walls of the furnace.
|
