PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent material for a display, capable of displaying a high color reproduction range at high brightness. SOLUTION: The fluorescent material is represented by Ba<SB>X</SB>Sr<SB>1-X</SB>Ga<SB>2</SB>S<SB>4</SB>: Eu [wherein, 0<X<0.5]. The fluorescent member at least has a base substance and a fluorophor arranged on the base substance and formed by using the fluorescent material. In more preferable embodiment, the fluorescent member has the fluorophor and at least two kinds of fluorophors having mutually different peak wave lengths of luminescence. The image display device has the fluorescent member and an excitation source for emitting light by exciting the fluorophore of the fluorescent member.
