METHOD FOR PRODUCING COMPOUND CONTAINING HYDROXY GROUP AND CURABLE COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation-curable composition having characteristics (such as excellent mechanical characteristics and a low degree of yellowing) required of an optical component and yielding a cured material having a high refractive index. SOLUTION: The method for producing a compound containing a hydroxy group is characterized by subjecting (a) an epoxy compound having at least one epoxy group and (b) a thiol to ring-opening addition reaction. The method for producing a curable compound is characterized by adding a (meth)acryloyl group to the hydroxy group of the above compound containing a hydroxy group. Since the refractive index (nD25) of a cured material obtained from a radiation-curable composition comprising the curable compound obtained above is not lower than 1.60 and its yellow index is adjustable in a range of not higher than 4 for example, the cured material can be used in an optical lens or the like.
