PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the residual loaded amount of a sheet-like recording medium P by a simple structure. SOLUTION: The height position of a medium contact member 127 vertically moved according to the variation of the stacked height of the sheet-like recording medium P while paper is being fed is divided into two upper and lower positions by bringing it into contact with the sheet-like recording medium P on a medium loading plate (intermediate plate) 122, and detected by contact position detection means 127b, 201a. By using the detection signals output from the contact position detection means 127b, 201a, the residual loaded amount of the sheet-like recording medium P on the medium loading plate 122 is calculated by a residual loaded medium amount calculation means.
