PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a preliminary separating mechanism capable of stably performing preliminary separation in an automatic feeder for automatically feeding members to be recorded by the rotation of a feed roller while separating one by one these members by a separating means toward a recording means of a recording device. SOLUTION: Recording sheets P brought into contact, at the ends, with a preliminary separating sloped surface 755 are advanced to a separating pad 72 by the rotation of the feed roller 71 while being preliminarily separated along the preliminary separating sloped surface 755. The preliminary separating sloped surface 755 is pressed by the recording paper sheets P advanced between the preliminary separating sloped surface 755 and the outer peripheral surface of the feed roller 71 and run by the rotation of the feed roller 71. A preliminary separating body 75 is so elastically deformed that the preliminary separating sloped surface 755 is displaced in the direction separating from the outer peripheral surface of the feed roller 71.
