The apparatus has a pump emitting source for generating a pump beam. An aspheric lens makes the pump beam parallel in one direction. A polarization rotator rotates a polarized pump beam by 90 degrees. A cylinder type lens makes the pump beam to pass through the polarization rotator parallel in another direction. A focusing lens focuses the pump beam on an anisotropic laser crystal (11) that includes axes (13) which are perpendicular and a different absorption degree. The laser crystal is pumped by the pump beam.
