A lawn mower has a lawn mowing mechanism (13), grass collection box (18) for receiving grass mowed by the lawn mowing mechanism, a lift mechanism (19) for lifting the grass collection box (18) to a high position, and a rear lid plate (21) adapted to openably close an opening in the rear face of the grass collection box (18). When the mowed grass received in the grass collection box (18) is discharged with the grass collection box (18) lifted to a high position, the grass collection box (18) is supported at the lifted position with increased stability, and the lawn mower is reduced in size and weight. The bottom of the grass collection box (18) is open, and the open bottom is openably closed by a bottom lid plate (20). The construction allows mowed grass to be discharged from the grass collection box (18) by opening the bottom lid plate (20) and the rear lid plate (21).
