PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and certainly retrieve and hold a waste ink which is apt to increase the viscosity and to be deposited. SOLUTION: The ink-jet recorder performs a recovery processing for recovering the discharge performance of a recording head by making a recording liquid flow out from the recording head. The ink-jet recorder is equipped with a retrieval member 4 for retrieving and holding the waste ink 3 generated by the recovery processing, a tube 2 which conveys the waste ink 3 generated by the recovery processing and discharges the waste ink 3 into the retrieval member 4 from a discharge port 1, and a change means for changing the position for discharging the waste ink 3 into the retrieval member 4 by changing the relative position of the retrieval member 4 to the discharge port 1.
