PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that allows an operator to perform calibration through fewer procedures than before. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus 100 which optically reads a document includes: a document read unit 101 which generates document data; a decision unit 104 which decides which kind of calibration chart among a plurality of kinds of calibration sheet the document is, based on the document data; a sampling unit 105 which generates sampling data as image values of respective patch images by sampling a plurality of patch images according to a decision result; a storage unit 107 which holds the generated sampling data while making them correspond to the kind decided by the decision unit 104; and a calibration unit 108 which performs color calibration according to the sampling data held in the storage unit 107.
