PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for further improving image quality by charging the a peripheral face of a belt to the polarity opposite to that of a developer before the belt reaches a transfer position. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an endless belt 73; a photoreceptor (photoreceptor drum 31) disposed to face the peripheral face 73c of the extended part 73a of the belt 73; and a transfer member (transfer roller 74) disposed to face the photoreceptor with the extended part 73a between them. The belt 73 is made of an insulating material. The inner circumferential surface 73d of the belt 73 is made of a material charged to the same polarity as the charging polarity of the developer by friction with the peripheral face 72a of the upstream one (follower roller 72) of the rollers 71 and 72, which supports the upstream end of the extended part 73a interposed between the photoreceptor and transfer member.
