PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which can control a start more stably without depending on a variation in the vibration characteristics of a vibrating mirror and can control light deflection restraining unnecessary beams of light from being emitted at the time of a start, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: The image forming device includes a laser light emission control section 54 controlling the occurrence of beams of light of a semiconductor laser 12, a BD sensor 13 detecting the beams of light and outputting synchronizing signals, a BD period measuring section 56 receiving the synchronizing signals and acquiring synchronizing signal information, and a vibrating mirror driving control section 55 controlling the driving of a synchronizing vibrating mirror 11. When the synchronizing signal information fails to satisfy effective conditions, the laser light emission control section 54 normally emits beams of light, and the vibrating mirror driving control section 55 controls the driving of the synchronizing vibrating mirror 11. When the synchronizing signal information satisfies the effective conditions, the laser light emission control section 54 intermittently emits beams of light and the vibrating mirror driving control section 55 controls the driving of the synchronizing vibrating mirror 11 so as to ensure that the receiving interval of synchronizing signals of the BD period measuring section 56 becomes a receiving interval at the time of image formation.
