PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a subject user selectively monitor one or more of other users, in an online environment. SOLUTION: The subject user accesses a directory of a usable online user located in a prescribed portion in the online environment, in one embodiment. Ordering of the usable online users in the directory is executed based on at least one out of a preference data of the subject user and a profile data. The subject user then selects a subset of the usable online users from the directory. The subject user receives periodically update information as to the selected subset of the usable online users.
