A character input apparatus and a method thereof are provided to solve the inconvenience of memorizing the positions of each key on a keyboard. A character input apparatus inputs characters corresponding to the permutation of two code values generated according to two inputs of a unit symbol extracted from the alphabet small letters. The character input apparatus comprises the followings: a key input unit(100) which consists of symbolic input keys in which the predetermined number of unit symbols, obtained by dividing/extracting the alphabet small letters, are indicated; a character information part which stores character information corresponding to the permutation of two code values generated by a manipulation of the symbolic input key; and a character decision unit which successively codes the sequentially inputted unit symbol with two code values, in case the first and second unit symbols are successively inputted from the symbolic input key, and determines the character corresponding to the permutation of two code values based on the character information stored in the character information part. |
