<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce image displacement without decreasing a printing speed as much as possible. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image forming means for forming a multi-color image by superposing monochrome images; a pattern forming means for forming a predetermined displacement correction pattern for each of the colors; a detecting means for detecting the formed image displacement correction pattern; and a correcting means for correcting the displacement of an image based on the result of the image displacement correction pattern detected by the detecting means.
