PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a long-time operation of a secondary battery and its long operating life while reducing burden on a user of a portable information device. SOLUTION: There is provided a charging and discharging control method of a secondary battery employed for the portable information device. When having connected the portable information device to an external electric power supply such as an AC adapter or the like, the method includes steps of: charging the secondary battery to a charging upper limit not exceeding a maximum rating capacity: discharging the secondary battery to a given capacity not exceeding the maximum rating capacity: and discharging a secondary battery, which has been charged to its upper limit charging capacity, to a given capacity in at least two days.
