PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive winch simply formed, reduced in weight and size, capable of orderly winding and unwinding a rope even in water, reduced in water flow resistance, less requiring energy consumption, reduced in damage and erroneous operation due to the damage, and easily manufacturable. SOLUTION: In this winch 2, a sleeve 22 with the same axis as a rope winding drum 25 is inserted into a rotating rope winding drum 25. A peripheral groove 23 tilted relative to its axis is formed in the outer periphery of the sleeve 22. A projection 24 projecting from the drum 25 to the shaft is slidably fitted into the peripheral groove 23 through a guide 21 for guiding the reciprocating motion of the projection 24 parallel with the shaft while rotating at a speed different from the speed of the sleeve 22 by a speed changer 19. The drum 25 rotated when the guide 21 is moved while being towed by the guide winds the rope 12 in layers according to the reciprocating motion of the projection 24 while being displaced in order in increments of the diameter of the rope 12 when the projection 24 is run on the peripheral groove 23 by the rotation of the sleeve 22.
