PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil treating agent by adjusting permeability of the hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil treating agent capable of sufficiently permeating contaminated soil which comprises a reducing agent-containing aqueous solution; to provide a hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil treating method employing the hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil treating agent. SOLUTION: The hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil treating agent is a reducing agent-containing viscous aqueous solution whose viscosity is given by a thickener. In this case, at least either ascorbic acid and/or ascorbate or erythorbic acid and/or erythorbate is used as the reducing agent. The hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil treating method enables the hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil treating agent to be fed to hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil. The hexavalent chromium-contaminated soil treating agent, which is a reducing agent-containing viscous aqueous solution, adjusts permeability to unsaturated layer soil, and makes the reducing agent sufficiently permeate the whole contaminated soil to reductively treat the whole contaminated soil.
