PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device updating correction data in appropriate timing. SOLUTION: When digital data obtained by reading reflected light from a document presser 19 satisfies a predetermined condition, correction data fullness determination processing (S26) is executed. Then when the quantity of variation in light quantity from when last correction data fullness determination processing (S10, S36) is executed, is not so large, the correction data fullness determination processing (S26) is not executed, so an image read unit 22 need not be moved to below a reference position 21b. A next page is speedily read, therefore, and the time needed for read processing is shortened. When the quantity of variation in light quantity from when the last correction data fullness determination processing (S10, S36) is executed, is large, on the other hand, the correction data full determination processing (S26) is executed, so correction data is updated in appropriate timing and shading correction is suitably performed.
