摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive material suitable for manufacturing an optical element with controlled molecular alignment such as a retardation film and a polarized light diffraction element, and for manufacturing a liquid crystal alignment layer. SOLUTION: The manufacturing cost of the material used for manufacturing the optical element with controlled molecular alignment such as the retardation film and the polarized light diffraction element and the liquid crystal alignment layer which are fabricated by a process including operations of light irradiation and heating/cooling is reduced without damaging an aligning property resulting from polarized light irradiation, by using a material obtained by adding one side chain with a photoreactive group, which forms a dimer via at least one hydrogen bonding part, to another side chain with no photoreactivity, which forms a dimer via at least one hydrogen bonding part.
