PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of communicating metadata to various types of clients performing interaction. SOLUTION: Techniques for communicating metadata are disclosed. The configuration module contains and specifies a mapping table. For example, each mapping in the mapping table indicates a standard, a retrieving protocol, and a packaging protocol. The device comprises one or more separately implemented retrieving protocol modules and packaging protocol modules. The device receives a client's request. The device selects a retrieving protocol to interpret the request, and interprets the request using that protocol. The device uses the mapping table to determine a packaging protocol that is mapped to the client's standard. The device uses the selected packaging protocol.
