PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display and a liquid crystal television that control the lighting of a backlight to reduce power consumption, and informs the user that the lighting is controlled, while no video signal is inputted, enabling realization of energy saving, without impairing the user's convenience. SOLUTION: When a microcomputer 26 detects that no video signal is inputted, it stabilizes the oscillation duty ratio of a control circuit 32c at an oscillation frequency lower than a predetermined value corresponding to actual tube current I, by decreasing the duty ratio of the brightness control signal inputted in the control circuit 32c and by shifting the feedback tube current Isen that is feebacked from the tube current feedback circuit f to the high-current side.
