PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent change in the attraction power of a transporting belt when a charge level for absorbing a print medium is changed. SOLUTION: A printing apparatus has a suction unit 2 which is in contact with the inner peripheral surface of the transporting belt 6 and supports the transporting belt 6. Through holes 18 for generating negative pressure at the contact surface that is in contact with the transporting belt 6 are formed in the suction unit. Accordingly, the transporting belt 6 can be attracted by the negative pressure. For example, in contrast to the method that attracts the transporting belt 6 by static electricity, the power of attracting the transporting belt 6 by the suction unit 2 can be prevented from changing when the charge level for attracting the print medium 5 changes.
