<p>Thixotropic greases, pref. based on silicone resins are used to seal the drive shafts of (helical) compressors or similar rotary bearings. Pref. the balance of capillary forces and press. differentials keeps the grease in place, but positive grease feed-back mechanisms may be used as necessary. Provides a better seal and less wear than a dry bearing with less risk of loss or contamination than an oil seal. Use of thixotropic grease compensates the viscosity balance for possible higher temps on the working end of the bearings. The silicone based greases used are resistant to refrigerants such as ammonia or Freons (RTM).</p> |
