Coated pigments - using amide coatings compatible with film-forming - binders used in paints inks and plastics

The pigment particles are coated with or incorporated in an organic amide compatible with film-forming water-resistant binders. The amide is pref. of formula R'(CONR2R3)n (in which R' is 1-6C hydrocarbyl of valency n,. Either R2 or R3 or both are groups -(R5O)mH, R5 being methylene, ethylene or propylene and m is 1 to 20, the remaining group being hydrogen or alkyl). The amount of amide used is pref. 2 to 150 wt.% on pigment. Films or print produced using such treated pigments have improved colour intensity, gloss and transparency.
