PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically specify and display an image under vague circumstances that requires the judgement of a human being in a monitoring system. SOLUTION: This monitoring system is provided with an input means for inputting each image picked up by a plurality of monitoring cameras; a featured value vector calculation part for calculating featured value vectors including one or more featured values showing the characteristics of the image from each image; a database in which a plurality of learning data including the featured vectors and one class of a plurality of classes are stored; an identification processing part for performing class identification for identifying a class to be applied to the featured value vectors calculated by the featured value calculation part on the basis of the database several times, and for calculating variation information showing the degree of variation of each class acquired by the several times of class identification; a selection part for selecting the monitoring cameras for the number of monitors on the bais of the variation information acquired from the calculated featured value vectors; and an image output part for outputting the image picked up by each selected monitoring camera to each monitor.
