PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-barrier transparent polylactic acid film which uses a vegetable-derived resin, is excellent in gas barrier properties for oxygen, steam, etc., and has high practicability including compatibility with environment. SOLUTION: In the bas-barrier transparent polylactic acid film, a pretreatment layer (2) by reactive ion etching (RIE) using plasma and a vapor deposition film layer (3) of 5-100 nm thickness which is made of an inorganic oxide overlie in turn at least one side of a film substrate (1) made of a polylactic acid resin. Pretreatment by RIE is low temperature plasma treatment in which a self-bias value is 200-2,000 V, and an Ed value defined by Ed=plasma density×treatment time is 100-1,000 W×m<SP>-2</SP>×sec.
